401# Perfect Grade Aile Strike Gundam - Part 2

Remember the previous post of this PG Aile Strike Gundam? Now more shots for my latest and toughest work so far. Click on the photos for higher resolution (not the highest though).

My 300 bucks Samsung camera does not have long battery life. Or perhaps it is so low range that it can't run on the rechargeable batteries well. So usually I will take the shots until the battery run out.

Having functional batteries with pleasant natural sunlight I decided to take a few shots for this massive masterpiece. Evening sunlight is always the best for me.

It is usually left in standby mode instead of any aerial pose as to conserve the strength of its joints. But however, being the model of the highest range, the joints are rather stiffer than the Master Grade and High Grade models therefore I suppose that they are more durable.

Other than the polycaps in the joints, the mechanical hydraulic pipes play an important role in the support too. Not just for the look, the hydraulic pipes do give extra supports, I think...

The only problem I have is the stand. It is not secure and pop out when I was moving the model. Having an unstable stand is really dangerous whereby the model will just drop down during adjustments. Other than that, everything else is fine.

If I were to give more critics, I think its weight could be an issue too. The Strike Gundam itself with armaments is already 512g, plus the Aile Striker backpack, I think the weight has easily hit above 700g. Extra weight means extra caution needed in handling.

But as long as you handle it with care, beware of the unstable stand, then everything will be fine.

I still have the Skygrasper unit in the box left unassembled. So far I have only 2 backlogs with me. Firstly is this Skygrasper, secondly is the HG Gaia Gundam, which I got as a birthday gift from my friend 2 years ago.

Oh yes, I still have the First Grade Gundam Rasiel and GN Sefer in the boxes. But I am just being too lazy to fix them. Take a look at the photo above, I did not even line the details of the inner part of the shield.

Firstly the crazy schedule I am having right now, secondly the price of gunpla, thirdly the laziness. Therefore I am really considering to quit gunpla-ing.

I have gone through fixing gunpla models of different grades, almost all of the grades. From SD, 1/144 scale model, High Grade, 1/100 scale model, Master Grade and even the highest Perfect Grade, I guess I have no regrets if I were to stop my hobby in gunpla.

The only regret would be I do not have the chance to learn air brushing. Unlike my friend who really plan to get his hands on an air brush set, I never have the thought to do air brushing because it is so expensive to start with.

Starting to work in few years time means I will have the money to get the air brush compressor set. But at the same time having a work means to time to breathe. Therefore shall I postpone my air brushing plan when I got specialised, and when I have a less tight schedule?

Anyway, this is just one of those things that we need to sacrifice in order to achieve what we wanted. To take away people's pain and to end people's suffering is the priority.

'Extra weight means extra caution needed in handling.'

i managed to talk to a store owner who has actually heard of dengeki hobby and he said he would call me when it comes.... whether he calls me or if he's like d other ppl i've talked to is a problem...=_="

chan: I know about the Standard Strike pose. It's being overposed in Cosmic Era mechas so I jus avoid it la, see til sien already.

AstayP03: No decals, lousy stickers only so it's quite sad. I think I'll jus keep my FGs la, before I get old then i'll fix it. I still haven't buy March issue man. can't find it.

i really take my efforts to find man. I live in Klang, study in seremban, i da pao both areas' mynews and popular as to find them. And i even asked my younger sister to find for me. For the Feb issue i didn't even see it at all. I got mine thru exchanging my extra Jan issue with a person I met thru forum. How sad :/

johor...! ok u win ^.^;
i heard from the guy i know from forum, he even has contacted mynews.com's office, and according to them, they had only around 100 copies of Jan issues imported to msia. So I was just the lucky one who managed to get 1 copy in seremban and 1 copy in Klang from those 100 copies...

I had problems with the stand as well. Not about the joint popping out actually - I take it as an advantage instead. XD When I want to store the whole model in its box, the base is easy to detach and the stand can be separated. That's a good thing for me because the other huge display base - from MG Ex-S Gundam has such firm joint, it can't be detached at all. It's such a nuisance to keep inside the box because of that part.

Used mainly to support the model, the stand doesn't really allow many poses for the lower body at all. The only way to see the model in different poses is to either turn the whole model, or the whole base itself around XD

Like you said, the model is just too heavy, especially when the weight distribution is so uneven for the Aile Pack (like one box slotted onto the back of Strike), I'm glad a stand is in nonetheless, to reduce the stress of the legs, particularly the ankles.

Quitting Gunpla? From my experience, there's no survivor from this addiction. Hehe ;)

seems that u have the same problem of the stand as well. When i moved it, the stand pops out, if i dun notice it, the model will just fall down... I think MG Ex-S shares the same stand isn't it? For me since my collections is still low so I don't have to keep them into the box so having stiff joints of the stand is an advantage for me. I only keep my HG and 1/100 in the boxes. Anything higher value like MG and PG deserve a space :P

Nothing much I can do due to its massive size so it's like what you said, turn around the stand.

I'm really struggle hard myself now. I don't want to quit gunpla, I still enjoy this hobby as much as how i enjoy music. But there's too much to pay in terms of time and money. I think I can control well now, I only bought PG Skygrasper this whole YEAR. Considering the fact that I'll buy one 1/100 or one MG each month last time...

But nonetheless, gunpla specific withdrawal syndrome isn't something desirable. Sigh.

ugh... if that's the case... i should probably give up searching for it =(

ah well...

I noticed that beautiful glass display case behind your strike pictures, I'm interested in purchasing something like that to display my models....can you tell mw where you got it? Specialty or what is just something you picked up at a furniture store....

Email is Rick_Aulicino@live.com

thanks!

if i'm not mistaken... the shelf is Detolf from ikea right?
i have the same one xP

Mike said...

Zero Distance, AstrayP03 has answered you question :D Thanks astrayP03.

Ya those are Detolf from IKEA. I bought 2 of them, black in colour (the wooden parts). There are white and wood colour too if I'm not wrong. Optional lamp can be mounted on top of the shelf.

Where did you get your PG stand from? I'm planning to get a Wing Zero Custom but I have difficulty finding a display stand to ssupport my Gundam. Any ideas on where to get it?

ZeroDistance said...

Thanks for the answers guys :D

@ R3i Kyou- Unfortunately, the PG Wing Zero Custom does not come with a stand(whereas the Pg Skygrasper + Aile Striker addon for the Strike does)

I'm sure it's possible to make one, but I have yet to find anything that can hold it's immense and lob-sided weight to my liking....

Mike said...

yeap, PG Strike has no stand. you got to buy the PG skygrasper for the stand. but anyway i've seen pirated stand being sold though. wrapped in a plasic bad. ideal for those PG striker owner who doesn't want to buy th PG skygrasper and yet wants the stand.

congratulation dude.. you just did a impressive job.. 700g.. OMG.. i never thought that PG kit can even heavier than a SLR camera.. those hydralic pump was comes in silver chrome right.. or it is metal cause i heard PG kitdoes come with metal part..

so lucky that you able to get those original dengeki hobby magazines.. i'm still have no idea where to get it yet..

having two hobby in one time really hard sometimes.. especially now you have two expensive hobby..

nice detolf shelf there..

i agree with NK.. not much survivor from this addiction.. haha

Mike said...

it's heavy and i don't put it on the stand because it tends to deviates side ways due to the shield's weight. I just put it in Ver.Ka pose since I'm not at home. There are chrome coated hydraulic pipes which are functioning. For those non functioning, just-for-looks only ones, you may need to paint them. I tried my best to hand paint all of them though. Look way better during armor cast-off.

speaking of dengeki hobby mag, i still haven't get the April issue yet!

no one can really quit from gunpla. Even if you don't buy it, you still can't control yourself from checking it out online...
