383# Cny 2009

383# Cny 2009

Happy Chinese New Year people.

You can called it as Chinese "Niu" year too, like how everyone of us abuse it, since it's the year of Ox which is called as "Niu" in Mandarin.

Yesterday was the first day of Chinese niu year, like usual we all gathered at my grandmother's place.

Last year my father called the lion dance team (for international readers you may like to learn more about lion dance here), but they did not show up in the end, because the manager had forgotten it!

But now this year luckily they did not forget about our call. They reached at the doorstep after our long anticipation.

I'm not sure which organisation or which Chinese school this lion dance team are from, but the thing for sure is that these people were sacrificing their Chinese new year for the sake of the performances.

Some of the members' style looked very striking. Their extremely bleached and colored hair reminded me of those rebellious students in Japan. Maybe what appeared to be normal in other country not really applicable here, I think.

I have seen quite a number of times of lion dance, but nonetheless it is still very exciting. Once in a year only afterall. Taylors college does call lion dance team too, but I missed it twice last time.

The sound of the instruments act as additional wave to pump up your hearts. You can really feel the impact when they were playing. Very, very noisy.

My "band manager" Khee Chun always ask me to play lion dance drum on the standard 5 piece drumset, but the floor tom's tone isn't low enough for that, haha.

One of the parts during the lion dance in the house is the "fruit-peeling" act. So there was a green fruit which I don't know the name and a few tangerins in the plate. And the lions will sort of put them in their "mouth", digest it, and spit it out.

Digestion in process.

The lion actually wears North Star shoes :)

It was a long process though, because the fruits were manually peeled.

It could be quite worrying too, because you wouldn't know why it would take them so long. Possible that the lion dancers fainted in there due to suffocation, and people around will still stand there and wait.

Few minutes after that, Da-dang! Peeled with flowerish arrangement.

As you can see, there are only 5 tangerins peeled and arranged. In fact there were more of them placed in the plate before that. In the end I found out that those MIA tangerins were discarded outside the house.

Final stunt would be the high jump to reach at the vegetable hung at, erm, 3.5 meters from ground?

For sure it was not an easy task to do. The back lion dancer needs a lot of strength to support the front lion dancer. They even swapped the back lion dancer for this particular stunt.

The first jump was not successful and they attempted for the second time then they made it. The vegetable was hung too high above I guess?

Finally it was ended with a blast. I mean, blasts. As you may know, the last blast is the most powderful one, but who knows the continuous explosion stopped right before the last blast.

The manager risked his life and lit for the last powderful firecracker. I could see the instrument team members were trying hard to "take cover". Even they also scared, so means that it would be super powderful!

In the end, it really did. I have never seen such powerful, powderful cracker get exploded right in front of me in such a short distance. The pieces blew all over the place in 360 degrees and some of them hit me.

Not painful, but the smoke released can really kill! A lot of them, including the team members were coughing. Some of them even nearly get an asthmatic attack. The gahmen shall consider in using this for riot control next time :)

Happy Chinese New Year again people.
Enjoy your temporary break.
I need to continue my studies after the 3rd day. Surgery end of posting is next week, and theory paper is next!
PS: Actually the firecrackers were fake. Really fake one. Really!

382# PG Strike - Slow work in progress

382# PG Strike - Slow work in progress

Part 2 - Progression

I have bought the Perfect Grade Strike Gundam last year, and it has been more than 1 month since the day I bought it.

I have never left any of my gunpla being uncompleted for more than 1 month in my history (2 years only la). The longest I took for a Master Grade model was 2 weeks. And that was because I took my sweet time to assemble it.

So I spent my time building this PG kit during the christmas break, and during the new year break. In each day I spent from 2 to 4 hours in assembling, paneling lining, markering and snapping the microsized pieces together.

Total of 7 days and roughly 20 hours I spent working on this, and it is just 30% done.

If that was an MG kit, by right I have finished it long time ago.

I have left this PG untouched ever since the new year. It's been 20 days already and sadly it is being covered by dust as well.

Actually I feel quite frustrated while building it. I really need a fine brush. I can't paint the details with the markers since the tips are too rough. And I'm troubled on how should I cast off the armors so that I could coat the inner frame.

Because I'm planning to coat the frame with dull coat and semi gloss finish for the armors, as to give a different texture for these two parts.

Anyway, I have to spend money for the semi gloss coat no doubt.

For the main body, there are only the skirting, left arm and left lower limb left. So why did I still call it as 30% done instead of 80%? Because there are still weapons awaiting assemble.

Plus, I have not bought the Perfect Grade Skygrasper which will cost another great sum of money for this kit. Together with the touching up and coating, therefore I assume my progress now so far is just 30%.

Maybe I will have time to continue after my Surgery posting exam.

KS practicing suturing during clinical skills session.

Surgery is just like building gunpla. I mean the suturing part.

Handling sharps, tiny needle, suturing, knotting...

Sounds like what I do during assembling gunpla; cutting, recutting, nip mark trimming, sanding, snapping...

What is important is the "skill"!

And of course the unlimited knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and a lot more to name with for surgery is far more even more important. I think I'm enjoying surgery posting right now. I think la.

PS: I still can't determine which hand of mine to use t handle the needle holder. Left or Right?

380# Crack

380# Crack

Yesterday we were kind of in a rush. We were going to Port Dickson Hospital for the OT (Operation Theater) session.

We had to get there as early as possible, as long as we are don't get there after DK (our surgeon, dean of clinical school). When I reached at rhe university to pick up everyone, they said our surgeon has left!

Panic, I had to get there before he does. So I tried to drive fast with 4 other colleagues of mine. When I passing the toll, my bad habit comes back again.

I don't stop my car entirely when I pass through the Smart Tag toll. I'll just slow down my car and pass through it with speed of 30km/h. A habit being practiced since 2006.

So, with this habit of not stopping the car while passing toll, while my car approaching the bar, the bar did not raise!

I braked even more, but with other 4 people in the car, the momentum was magnificent enough to inhibit my deceleration. And my car just crashed at the bar.

2 seconds after the crash, I heard the "beep" sound from my Smart Tag when I attempted to get it to check it.

Blardy hell, this is not smart! And after the beep, the bar which got crashed a side did not raise at all too! Plus, the censor only detect my Smart Tag after 2 seconds of the crash, what the heck?

I have to admit that it was mainly my mistake for not slowing the car enough when I pass through it. But sorry to say that I've survived for almost 3 years on passing the toll with that speed. Apart from my mistake, the toll has to take part of the blame too.

The bar did not raise, and unlike Kesas, the bar was a freaking metal bar instead of paper-made bar.

And the consequence...

Cracked windscreen.

At first there was only the two vertical crackes from the bottom, measured about 4 and 5 cm each. But once I reached at the hospital, the we could see the crack extend horizontally to the right.

That was no good, no good. This horizontal fissure was then measured, 12.5cm. After my OT session in the hospital, during way back I checked it again. The fissure got more than 15cm after the 3 hours.

I expected some trashing from my father for this mistake. I have been warned by him and my friends before this, but I never listen - because Kesas tolls are sensitive and fast! Didn't expect tolls at other high way are way so much retarded.

But my father did not scold me, but instead the guilt killed me. I lost my appetite for the whole day for such preventable mistake I have done.

Yesterday during the way back home from Seremban, it was raining so heavily. I was quite afraid because the heavy rain was exerting pressure on the windscreen. I had to turn on the wiper because of the rain, and that exerts pressure too! Afraid that would worsen the crack.

But fortunately the crack did not extend after the evening of the incident.

After spending a great amount of money, my car has got a new windscreen.

A very expensive lesson indeed. I shall slower my car even MORE when I pass through the toll.

So sorry to all my colleagues who sat in my car. Hanim, Mei Ann, Jue Jing, I could her you all screaming. But William, you did not! Because you were reading.

To the highway company, you legalised robbers are just full of shit. Screw your contracts.

379# Top 10 albums of 2008

379# Top 10 albums of 2008

I got this laptop not long ago, ever since August of last year from the PC fair, which I have
mentioned. Certainly the first time I'd do for this laptop is to transfer all my musics and rip all my CDs into it.

Having more than 20Gb of music, I'd say I really enjoy listening to music. I even bought external speakers because I'm quite a whore in terms of acoustic quality.

So, to find out which are albums that I listened to the most through out these 5 months, I can chec through the media player. And here it goes;

10th -Symphony by Sarah Brightman

I don't listen to soprano before I listen to Gothic metal. To listen more about soprano music, I have choosed Sarah Brightman. "Gothica" is a very glamour opening which proceeds to "Fleurs Du Mal". The baritone blends extremely well with her high pitched vocal.

9th - Little Voice by Sara Bareilles

How the heck would I know about this artist? Thanks to Hitz.fm, which I don't listen to. I only listen to the radio when I'm in other people's car. I'm an anti radio music kind of person. But anyway, "Love Song" is catching enough to get my attention. However, I enjoy "Bottle it Up" more than this hit track. There are more than a few of artists with great piano skills to name with, but definitely Sara Bareilles's songs hit on my nerves perfectly.

8th - Doomsday Machine by Arch Enemy

The very first melodic death metal band that I listen to. I actually know this band through my cousin's recommendation (he asked me not to tell other people about this band, though). I have tried to listen to a few of their songs few years back. Not until when I found out that the drummer of this band is in fact Adrian Erlandsson's brother. Then I went youtube to find out more about this band, and the fact that the vocalist is a FEMALE singer was really shocking. I never know that female can also sing death metal. Plus the vocals I heard was so aggressive and not it's not easy for a female to sing with.

7th - Godspeed of the Devil's Thunder by Cradle of Filth

Cradle is going down through the years. Ever since their symphonic album "Damnation and a Day", the following albums, Nymphetamine and Thornography were such a big disappointment. From the Black metal that they used to be they started to sell out and sort of "degraded" into Extreme metal. But thank god (?) that this latest album gain back my confidence to this band.

Nicely themed, and the style goes back to their late 90's style. Track "The Death of Love" is really sweet and as well as the trashy "Honey and Sulfur" with Latin bridge. Other than the female vocalist Sara Jezebel Deva and choir, as well as
Doug Bradley for narrations, they also added a new baritone and also the vocalist's daughter to contribute in the album. Very sweet and dark album indeed.

6th - クラゲ、流れ星 by Ai Otsuka

Kurage, Nagareboshi. Not an album, this is a single in fact. It's the lastest single by Ai Otsuka before her 5th album Love Letter. Yet to wait for the album to be availabe locally, but I've prelistened to the tracks through alternate methods. This track "クラゲ、流れ星" sounds pentatonics to me especially during the chorus, therefore some even claim that she plagarised one of Jay chou's song. Come on man, there are incidents of Taiwanese artist plagarise Japanese songs, but not the otherwise.

Back to the single, the mentioned A-side is clam and mellow, while the B-side is another upbeat side of Ai. It includes a third track, "雨の粒、ワルツ~LOVE MUSiC~", a remake of her previously released track, "Love Music". Brilliantly rearranged wih strings. Best of her remake songs so far.

5th - All Hope is Gone by Slipknot

A very, very long waited album by Slipknot, ever since their previous Vol3: The Subliminal Verses released in year 2004. Now 4 years has passed but the aggression continues. Like the previous album, an extremely bipolar track arrangement. Most of the tracks still maintain Corey Taylor's terrifiying vocals, but yet the band includes clean vocals in a few fast songs, which actually disappoints me. Because they sound like Corey Taylor's side project, Stone Sour. But whatever it is, my favourite track of the album has to be "Snuff". Ironic enough, it's the only acoustic track in the album. I wish I could sing this in the Karaoke (I know they won't have it) so that I could express my emo-ness and cry in the end of the song.

4th - The Spirit Room by Michelle Branch

This really surprised me. I didn't notice that I listen to "I rather be in love" and "Goodbye to you" so frequently until this album got to the 4th in my most played list. Very mellow and emotional tracks. But they lyrics describe more on the girl's side than for myself.

3rd - Camomile Classics by Emi Fujita

I was not interested in this artist although my elder sister told me about her. At first I thought that she sings gospel songs, thus my avoidance. But I was proven wrong in the end when I downloaded one of her album for my sister. In the end I got all of her releases and listen to her almost every night. I didn't expect "The Rose" to be the top, because I still prefer "Desperado" more than any other tracks.

2nd - Deep Forest by Do As Infinity

Funny enough, the other japanese artist which I like, like Mika Nakashima, BoA, Bonnie Pink didn't make it into the top 10 but this band Do As Infinity does. I was not interested in this band at first. But havin something foreign and new is good to listen when I'm studying. Therefore I kept playing their albums through out these few months when I am doing by studies. Japanese pop rock isn't that bad afterall, at least not as stressing as metal music.

1st- Devil May Cry 4 Original Soundtrack

What a surprise! The only album which is a soundtrack, and yet sits at the top of the top 10! Didn't realise that I listen to this soundtrack so frequently. Reason? No lyrics, most of the tracks a silent - Good music to listen during late study. Instead of Resident Evil 4's soundtrack which is more eerie, this soundtrack has ups and downs and it's really good to enjoy with. Just that it may be a temptation to turn on the game and play.

Conclusion: No Music,No life! Buy Original!

378# Inside the Nine

378# Inside the Nine

I missed the last post for year 2008. And I'm missing the first post of the first day of 2009, too.

Very busy and unmotivated through out these days. I've got a very shocking invitation which could be the best surprise for me to end my year 2008.

I've got her wedding invitation 2 days ago. What I can say is that, I hope that she will live happy together with her husband. I'm not sure whether I will attend her wedding or not, but for sure they will have my blessings. Take it.

I keep my promise, the reason why I walked away is to put more concentration in my studies. Now 5 years have passed and finally you have found someone better to spend your remaining life with. It's a very mixed feelings for me, but what matters most is your happiness.

You won't have him if you kept waiting isn't it? And I bet you won't wait anyway.

Alright, a new year has come. Everyone has to do this, the new year resolution, so do I.

Nine new year resolutions for the year 2009, with the priority as follows;

1. Pass my End of Semester 7, at least a clear pass.

2. Improve my clerking skills and spend more time with the patients.

3. Perform an intravenous drip and do a complete suture on a patient.

4. Spend more time in studies when I'm in Seremban.

5. Spend more time with my family when I'm at home.

6. Control my spending, buy less gunpla.

7. Learn a least 3 new metal songs and 5 acoustic songs.

8. Complete my PG Strike.

9. Finish the books which I haven't finish reading.

However, how many of us really fulfill what we have planned?

Three among the nine above involves the fixed time which everyone has, which is quite sad. 24 hours is never enough.

Besides, building the PG Strike and learning new songs need time too. So more than half of my resolutions actually implying that I need more time!
